Special Hazardous Substances
National Chung Hsing University Chemicals and Laboratory Waste Compatibility Chart
1. All chemicals, whether in use or unused, as well as laboratory solid and liquid wastes, must be stored and handled separately and must not be mixed. For example, organic acid waste liquids must not be mixed with inorganic acid waste liquids.
2. If small-scale mixing of chemicals is required during experiments, operators should first consult the “Chemicals and Laboratory Waste Compatibility Chart” below to understand potential hazards, and must wear appropriate personal protective equipment while conducting the procedure.
Hazardous Chemicals & Waste Liquids Storage Precautions
•Compatibility
Incompatible chemicals or waste liquids must be stored separately.
•Solid / Liquid
Solids and liquids should be stored separately.
•Organic / Inorganic
Organic and inorganic substances should be stored separately.
•Peroxides / Strong Oxidizers / Strong Reducing Agents
Peroxides, strong oxidizers, and strong reducing agents must be stored separately.
•Flammable / Explosive
Flammable and explosive substances should be stored in dedicated fire-resistant areas, away from oxidizers or reactive substances.
•Water-Reactive Substances
Water-reactive substances must be kept away from water and humid environments, and stored in dry, tightly sealed containers (e.g., desiccators).
•Containers & Environment
Use compatible containers; keep storage areas cool, dry, and well-ventilated.
•Labeling & Management
Clearly label chemical names and hazards; regularly check inventory and storage conditions. Waste liquids must be properly labeled with designated waste container labels, and the contents and relevant information must be clearly indicated on the label.
•Note
For detailed information, the Safety Data Sheets (SDS) provided by the manufacturer, importer, or supplier must be followed.
